Medications for crohns disease

A dear friend with Crohns for 10 years have taken Pentasa, but its not effective and still suffering from flare ups. Dr do not order Remicade for her. her painkillers don't seem to work very well either.

She needs more advise on other new meds in the market which has proven to be better than the current meds.

Appreciate your reply.

Thank you.

Medications for crohns disease NEW
by: Annette Young

Hello there,

I have learned a great deal about Crohn's disease over the years. My mother was diagnosed with the disease, quite a long time after her symptoms began, as she was diagnosed with other conditions first which complicated the matter. We had many problems with the doctors at the time, and they did not want to change her medicine which seemed to make her quite ill.

It certainly wasn't helping the Crohn's disease. She almost ended up being a prisoner in her own body and a prisoner in the house too because she certainly wasn't going to leave it in case she became ill or had to keep running to the bathroom.

As a family unit we kept pushing for more information about the disease and for her to try different medication. Eventually, after much pestering, they found one which suited her.

I have discovered that controlling Crohn's disease medication is a bit hit and miss and this is because the disease affects people differently. There are many different medications that can be tried, and certainly if some are not effective, the only way to deal with it is to go back to the doctor and to keep pushing to have a different treatment. At the end of the day you are entitled to medical help and this is what we did, eventually getting the result we wanted.

Here is some information that might be of use to you.
