has anyone had a complete colectomy with ileostomy for untreatable CD?

I have been on every medication avialable in the US and I have two abcesses, a fistula and a colostomy right now, on june 5, i am scheduled for a complete colectomy with ileostomy, they claim that I will be pain free from this disease in my stomach if i have this surgery? that seems impossible, I have joint pain, mouth ulcers, iritis, erythema nodusum, you name it I have it, my back and spine are affected, everything, how am I gonna feel better> anyone been through it>? can you tell me your experience?
thanks
wendy

I'm 59 and have had an ille since age 21. It is likely you will be pain free and it is remarkable. But realize it is as likely to come back as not. Surgery is a last option, at times the only option. It does work.Good luck Stay Positive

Dear Wendy,

The info that i have read is that CD can show up anywhere from the mouth to the anus, anywhere in the gastro intestinal tract so I dont know if you would be rid of the disease completely. If it was me I would exhaust all avenues natural and medical and dietetic and get more than one opinion before any more operations. (You may have done this already).
