What to expect when taking oral Entocort

by John Fierro

My son was diagnosed with Crohns Disease 3 years ago. After several hospitalizations and a bowel resection, he is doing quite well on Humira.

His past two lab results indicated that he was slightly anemic and his gastroenterologist has prescribed Entocort 9mg daily for 3 months to see if this
will eliminate the the cause of the anemia.

He has taken prednisone in the past and hated how it made him feel.
Can anyone shed any light on what to expect with Entocort?

Thanks,

John

What to expect when taking Entocort

Entocort does not have all the side effects of prednisone. It works only in the small intestine and bowel. It relieves inflammation and helps the tissue heal. Obviously the doctor still believes there is bleeding in the intestine which is causing the anemia if he prescribed this. I have been on Entocort for over a year. I prefer it over prednisone. Entocort has been known to help with remission of symptoms relating to Crohn's disease. I hope this helped.
