psycosis
by: Anonymous

My daughter has chrons and she developed psycosis
she was not on steroids. She has a high infamitory responce in her blood levels she feels that everyone is looking at her and that she is spaced out. She does not take drugs. She was put into a psyc hospital and started on medication for that, it is a long slow process.
she needs lots of structured support inall areas to get her life back

Me too...
by: Lyndseylou

like Kyle, who left a post, I too have been where your son is, so please reassure him that it is not just him, (and he is not going mad.)Your practicioner can supervise a quicker reduction of prednisolone. I used Budesonide instead, (it is a steroid still, but absorbed in the bowel and does not have the same effects as prednisolone. Remicade, (we call it Infliximab in the UK,) is definitely worth trying as is Azathyroprine, (Imuran,) and similar immuno-supressants. It took me a full 12 months to feel 'normal' after coming off prednisolone. I as paranoid, suicidal and laughing manically minute and sobbing the next. However, I did start feeling improvement in 2 to 3 months. Prednisolone is a cheap treatment but not suitable for all as you now know, so please insist your son has access to other treatments. I know you will give him the support he needs until he recovers, (and he will.)My best wishes 2 you and your son.

Not alone
by: Kyle

Mam i have had Crohns disease for about 4 years now and i was put on prednisone and had many of the same problems you described you son was having...I thought i was losing my mind also but after getting off the drugs and getting onto remicade (I suffered for a while with prednisone withdrawals) i am almost back to normal a year later. Their is hope...please have him check all his medication options...prednisone is not good long term or even short term for some and mental side effects are apart of it
