Smoking cures my Crohn's NEW
by: Annette Young

Hello there,

Thank you for your comment.

I hate to contradict you but it has long been suspected that smoking actually has a detrimental effect on Crohn's and that many of those who suffer with Crohn's disease are actually smokers.

Over the years evidence has been gathered, and subsequently confirmed that smoking does make Crohn's disease worse so there is a definitive link. Smokers have a greater risk of developing fistulae and abscesses.

When you smoke, Crohn's disease is much harder to control. you're more likely to need more powerful drugs, surgery, and to experience greater flare-ups.

When you kick the habit, you may also have less need of steroids or immunosuppressive medications.

You may think that smoking is alleviating some of the symptoms or making the condition better, but in actual fact you are doing yourself far more damage.

Family history and ethnic backgrounds are two of the main reasons why someone will contract Crohn's disease but the sad facts are that smokers are twice as likely to get crohn's than a non-smoker.

I have attached a link to support this and hope that it helps.

Please do seriously consider giving up smoking before you make your condition so much worse.

Best wishes,
Annette
