Signs of Crohn's Disease

by melissa
(canada)

Hi i was wondering if sores in the mouth are a part of Crohn's Disease. I was also wondering don't most people lose there appetite instead of ganging one, and don't they lose weight instead of putting it on. If anyone can help answer these questions for me it would be great.

Mouth Sores are Part of Crohn's Disease
by: Kim Mears

My son at the age of one started having major mouth sores, he was hospitalized the first time and we spent the next year seeing speacialist.

After having two or more out breaks a month for over a year, he was finally diagnosed with Crohn's Disease.

He will be starting Remicade next week since the steriods did not stop the out breaks. He turned two in February and we feel very blessed to finally have a diagnosis.

Sores in the mouth
by: Anonymous

Hi, I'm a nurse and a crohn's patient for the last 15 years. Yes mouth ulcers can be caused by crohn's. I have had them many times myself. To answer your other question yes you can put on weight with crohn's and not everyone with crohn's will lose significant weight. I am generally about 30 lbs overweight and am in active disease at the moment. Some people do lose their appetite but many of the medications given especially corticosteroids can increase the appetite greatly. I have had periods where i have been very thin and times when i have been quite overweight over the years depending on the disease and medications, it varies for everyone.

THRUSH ~ MOUTH SORES ~ WEIGHT GAIN
by: Marydon

THRUSH ~ get checked for it ... not uncommon in these kinds of diseases.

Weight gain is not uncommon, but usually it is weight loss.

Signs of Crohn's Disease
by: JoAnne

I don't know about the sores in the mouth part, but I don't eat as much as I did before. But, on the other hand I have put on weight and the doctor said that I am wired wrong LOL. I think that if I have to have this crazy disease I could at lease be thin. If you find out some news tell me.

YES SORES IN THE MOUTH ARE PART OF CROHNS, AND WITH ME I LOST A LOT OF WEIGHT BUT ONCE I WAS DIAGNOSED AND STARTED TREATMENT THE WEIGHT PILED BACK ON. I ONLY LOSE WEIGHT IF I HAVE A FLARE UP.
