pentasa crohns dosage

my 11 year old son takes pentasa 500mg slow release tablets 3 times a day, his consultant told me i can give him 2 tablets in the morning and 1 at night it seems a lot to take at one time,i thought you are not supposed to double up your dose at one time. concerned parent.
