Managing your Crohn's NEW
by: Annette

Hello,

Thank you for your post, it is good to hear that you are managing to cope with your Crohn's disease. You mention that you have had your ups and downs with this condition and the inevitable flare-ups, but you seem to be managing well by taking the prescribed medication and avoiding certain food types.

Many people are scared to death when they are first diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I can understand this completely as it can be a very aggressive disease and completely take over your life. Worse, it can be difficult to explain to others how it affects you. People do not always understand and places of work may not realize just how severe it can get. I know many people who have suffered with the extremes of the condition, so this is why it is good to hear that you are managing yours as this gives hope to others.

For those who are new to the forum, obviously the first steps are to have correct diagnosis, and then treatment. Following this, it is a matter of learning how it affects you and being prepared to be flexible in your life, adapting where possible. Coping with stress is vital. There are many stressful situations out there but although you cannot eradicate them, learning to be fluid in your response can make a difference.

I am sure you will agree that it's important to have a good support system in place - either family or friends who stand by you but also to make use of forums like this, because Crohn's disease can be very isolating.

Because the symptoms are so varied, flare-ups may be mild or more severe and symptoms can be different each time and it's good for others to understand what you are going through.

I wish you well for the future.

Has anyone else learned how to manage their condition through stress management or by avoiding certain foods? I would be interested to learn more.
