Helpful Information

by Emily Burns
(PA)

Hello All,

There's this really good book called Crohn's and Colitis Diet Guide. It's written by a GI doctor and a dietician. It has extremely helpful information. The authors are Dr. A. Hillary Steinhart and Julie Cepo.

The two things I learned that were most helpful are that one of the reasons I've lost weight rapidly is because I was dehydrated. You don't have to have nausea to be dehydrated.

The other thing I learned was the difference between soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber (oatmeal and oat bran, tapioca, okra, etc.) reduces bowel movement frequency. I recently tried eating oatmeal and it seems to be working.

I hope this helps some people!
