Finally we have RELIEF!!!!!!!!!!!

After years of trying 6MP, Entocort, prednisone, flagil and an assortment of other meds we finally have wonderful response with remicade. I had forgotten how wonderful it is to sleep at night without interruption. I cannot imagine how our son must have been feeling. We even now have his jejunostomy site looking great and he is wanting to be on his stomach. There truly is help out there if you just search long enough. Don't give up.

Relief
by: Annette Young

Hello there,

How nice to hear some positive news. Congratulations on all of you getting your lives back - freedom from pain and being able to sleep is wonderful.

It can take some time to get the right treatment. I can remember my mother having a nightmare of a time while they diagnosed and then tried to get her on the right medication. She was so ill for such a long time and looked like a walking skeleton at one point. Finally, once on the right meds, she started looking and feeling so much better. She dreaded going to see the doctors though and always felt like they didn't believe her and yet, it was obvious she was ill.

I do often feel that Crohn's disease is not fully understood by many doctors and so it can go un-diagnosed or mis-diagnosed for a long time. Having said that, if you get a good doctor or specialist who knows all about the disease, help comes much more readily.

Hopefully, the freedom from the disease will continue now that the right treatment has been found. If any symptoms do start to flareup , it is important to seek out help as soon as possible. In the meanwhile, stick to a crohn's friendly diet.
Even with the right meds, there is no point aggravating the system and triggering off a bout of pain.

I hope that the relief continues and wish you all the best for the future.

Best wishes,

Annette

I AM SURPRISED YOU ARE JUST LEARNING OF REMICADE. THIS HAS BEEN AVAIABLE SINCE THE MID 90'S. I WAS THE FIRST CROHNS PATIENT TO RECEIVE REMICADE IN THE CITY I WAS LIVING IN TEXAS AT THE TIME 1997. IT DID MAKE ME FEEL BETTER. I HAD ANOTHER INFUSION IN 2000 AFTER MY LAST SURGERY.
IF YOUR GI IS JUST NOW RECOMMENDING REMICADE I WOULD LOOK FOR ANOTHER. ALSO, MOST SURGEONS WOULD STRONGLY AGREE YOU NOT USE PREDNISONE IF POSSIBLE. PREDNISONE ONLY COMPLICATES ANY SURGERY LATER AND IS ONLY A QUICK FIX FOR A MORE SERIOUS UNDERLYING PROBLEM. A BLAND DIET, FISH OIL AND TRY PROBIOTICS.
