Hi Emma, Please, please go through with the tribunal. I have a son, who like yourself has crohns and has 8 weekly infliximab infusions. I have claimed dla for him and I know that most people who apply with crohns get automatically refused. After getting refused, I re appealed which was also turned down and then it went to tribunal and was successful. You must not give up, the appeal was not at all intimadating and seems to be the only way to get the help you need.Have you tried contacting NACC? they will get a DLA adviser to call you and give you advice.Crohns is a horrible disease and I really hope you get the help you need.

DLA

Get a letter from your consultant to confirm you have crohns, and remember two of the key points is that you cannot stand for long periods of time and you cannot make a meal for yourself because of frequent visits to the toilet and having to switch off the appliances in the interests of safety.
Hope this helps,

P.S. If you know anyone in the medical profession who would help filling in the forms.

Appeals ......
by: Robert Mead

I had my claim for the high level mobility allowance turned down the day I had total knee replacement surgery on my left knee, the DHS sent a letter explaining their doctor claimed I was fir for work ! Anyway, took almost a year to have my appeal heard and I had high mobility allowance back dated to my original claim date which was nice but that didn't take into account the daily public transport expenses as I could not walk anywhere !! They never explained how the day I have surgery they can pass me fit to work !

I WAS TURNED DOWN AT FIRST BUT IT WENT TO A TRIBUNAL AND I DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO ATTEND IN THE END THEY JUST PHONED ME AND SAID WOULD I ACCEPT THE LOW RATE OF CARE AND LOW RATE OF MOBILITY, IF SO I WOULD NOT HAVE TO ATTEND.

I ACCEPTED AND HAVE BEEN AWARDED FOR 3 YEARS WHEN I WILL BE ASSESSED AGAIN.

SO DO NOT GIVE UP KEEP TRYING

How do you get Disability Living Allowance?
by: Julie

What exactly is Disability Living Allowance and how do you go about getting it? I have recently been diagnosed with Crohn's and now that I have pre-existing conditions, I am unable to add other types of coverage to my insurance.

Disablility Living Allowance
by: JoAnne

I live in USA and I was turned down for what we call Social Security Disability and I appealed in 2005. I got attorney an I will have my hearing in April of this year 2008. My attorney said there is no way they will turn me down for benifits. You can not work, so fight and do give up. My doctors told me they always turn you down the first time and if you can't afford attorney appeal again, and then again up to three time then they will give it to you. I know that is a long time but, what do you have but time. You can't work with this crazy disease. Good Luck

Yes my sister has been on it for 10 years with her chrons and she is now 36. She lives in Brighton. She also has a blue disabled badge so she can park and dash to the loo if she needs to.

disability not likely
by: shell

I also tried for disability at one stage the office told me that the disease is new and unknown and i would not qualify. This sucks who are they to say no for these reasons.
