Crohns and azathioprine and steroids

by Angie
(Scotland)

I was diagnosed with crohns a year ago and it has affected my life immensely! Having to leave my job was worst thing as I literally lived in my bed or the toilet as I couldnt eat anything or id be sick and would be at the toilet numerous times especially in the morning! I just turned 20 and have been on and off prednisone (steroid) and have been on azathioprine for 3months. I have gained so much weight especially on my face and had terrible mood swings due to steroids. Now I am on azathioprine which I think it is the worst medication!! also that I am still young my hair is falling out my eye lashes are very thin, have noticed lots of red spots on my skin everywhere mostly on my chest and I am still sick at times when I am eating but my bowels are fine for now. Also having blood tests every week then monthly is annoying. Recently went to my specialist and out of the blue he said I would probably be on this medication for the rest of my life> to this point I am really upset and want to try something else instead of this drug!

Was wondering if anyone has been on something slightly better that doesnt have much side effects? I get more depressed everyday and still cant lose the weight from the steroids since december. I dont look the same person anymore....these medications I think are worse than the illness itself lol! ;'(

Research anti-MAP meds on the Internet... NEW
by: Peter Bray

Ask your gastroenterologist what he knows about
anti-MAP antibiotics...then have him or her google Dr. Tom Borody in Australia or Professor John Hermon-Taylor in England, or Dr. William Chamberlin in Texas and learn what others are doing to kill the mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis bacteria in Johne's Disease infected dairy cows...it's a global problem, and a human tragedy of growing proportions...Google for Professor John Hermon-Taylor's scientific papers or check the IBD videos on www.YouTube.com from the 2009 International Colloquium on Paratuberculosis in Minneapolis...Mankind's immune-suppressing drugs are CRAP and worthless...they only attempt to suppress the symptoms while allowing the real, bacteriological pathogens to eat away at your gut tissues, causing repeated surgeries and death...that's the blunt truth and my daughter Cathy, 44 is now gone, done, passed away Feb.24th...after 24 years of fighting Crohn's and a looped, temporary ileostomy last April, which only extended her life by 10 months---It's time to stop this madness on this planet! Crohns NEW
by: Mary

Been on prednisne since Nov 2011 and started Humira in Jan 2012, am now weaning off steroids. The meds are worse than the disease! AI have ages greatly since Nov. I have made up my mind that I am not going back on them. If the humira doesn't work I will let the disease take it's course,

Steroids were horrific... NEW
by: Peter Bray

In our experience, Prednisone steroids were horrific. They led Cathy to steroid psychosis every time and psych ward hospitalizations, manic behavior and worse. Then anti-psychotic drugs Haldol and Cogentin, and sometimes months of resdential psych ward stays...I say it's way beyond time to CURE Crohns disease and give up this pharmaceutical mine field of horrific crap. Read about Johne's disease-infected dairy cows and MAP, mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis and the dairy industry, the fact that pasteurization does not kill MAP, and why isn't the US government doing somethihg about it like England and Ireland? Cure Crohn's, remove the pathogens from the food chain..My daughter Cathy,44 is now dead after 24 years of useless western medications and surgery for a temporary, looped ileostomy last April...February 24th, her heart stopped twice the ER and ICU...Stop this madness! How many more have to die to fund pharmaceutical profits in the US?? Peter Bray, Benicia, CA I'll send my "War on Crohns" series of articles free anywhere on the planet...write to me at PetrBray@AOL.com
