I have been on Remicade for almost 3 years..I have gained about 30-40 lbs since then. Nothing I do seems to help. I continue to gain weight. I am so frustrated. I started having right hip pain a couple months ago...I thought it was my new shoes but stopped wearing them for awhile and that didn't help. I had an x-ray and it was negative. Who is having IBD associated arthritis and what do they normally start with?

response to constipated and weight gain by: Anonymous
I suffer from constipation and weight gain. I am always sick, either recovering, going through or starting a flare-up. I have gained 50 pounds in 3 years and I only eat once a day. That is all I can process. I think the metabilism slows down due to the lack of food. I always go from constipated to diahrea. A never ending circle. To be honest, you should be glad to be overweight because as the disease progresses you will eventually lose lots of weight and then too much. My mother had crohn's and I saw first hand how a little weight gain is ugly and uncomfortable but personally how important a store of fat can be when you literally CANNOT eat. (She could not swallow food and died from lack of nutrition)
Be strong, you are not alone.

Constipation and Crohns by: Anonymous
I'm another Crohn's patient who suffers from severe constipation. I feel for all of you out there. It is so nice to hear that I'm not the only one with the constipation. I can't find any research that addresses the constipation. Every thing seems to mention diarrea.

Crohn's weight gain by: Anonymous
I was diagnosed 2 years ago. MD put me on Phentermine for the weight gain and I have lost 68 pounds and my crohn's has stayed in remission.

Thank Heavens by: Anonymous
I thought I might be the only person out there who had Crohns with weight gain... Everyone I talk to sees that I'm overweight and tell me there is no way I could have Crohns (including my doc). I'd love to know how to control my weight and my symptoms both ~ seems every drug they put me on just gives me more weight gain...

same experience! by: Sasha
To be honest I gave up on numerous treatments for crohns disease, beause I became depressed having to spend my senior year taking almost 40 pills a day! I had tried pentasa, steroids, remicade, and humera and told my doctor I was tired of being his guinea pig, because I ended up either not responding or allergic and in the ER....I have gained about 15- 20 pounds since my diagnosis and everyone else that has crohns seems to be very tiny and i am a 19 year old female at 140.....any ideas, i tried salads and veggies and of course not a good idea, i tried liquid diets, but im always starving and i tried an all natural alternative called RELIV and it has not done anything, and i really refuse to do steroids...so all in all you are not the only one with weight gain...any ideas?

Chron's and Vegetarianism by: Anonymous
I have recently been diagnosed with Chron's and am currently working to get into remission. My doctor put me on Prednasone until my 6MP kicks in. In the meanwhile, I've been reading up on how I might alter my diet in order to avoid aggravating my intestinal tract. As I read, I've been finding many websites and books with good advice, but the problem for me is that the majority of these resources assume that you eat meat. I've been a vegetarian for over 10 years now and I don't want to give that up. Does anyone know of good resources that advise vegetarians on how to eat with Crohn's or IBD? Thanks!

Constipation by: Anonymous
I was diagnosed with Crohns in May of this year. I was very constipated before I ended up in the hospital. I am still that way. I do take a stool softner to help. It is hard because the fiber will really flare me up so everything I used to eat I eat in moderation or very little.

weight gain and constipation by: Anonymous
I have Crohns and I have always had constipation. Contrary to reports. The severe constipation was how I got diagnosed. Weight gain was also a problem for me. My doctor has put me on phentermine. A very low dosage will keep the weight down and does not interfere with your Crohns treatment.
