Blood in Feaces NEW
by: Annette Young

Hello there,

Thank you for your question.
There can be a number of conditions which can instigate blood in the stools. For most children,it is not serious but of course if it continues, then you should seek medical advice.

There are two sources of blood within the stools, and this comes from the lower digestive tract- so from the colon, anus and rectum. Blood from the stomach and small intestine will also lead to blood in the stools and this usually leads to very dark stool colouring. Anal fissures or even an intolerance to dairy products could be responsible. It could also be inflammatory bowel disease or even infectious diarrhea.

Children can get Crohn's disease too so although I would advise you not to worry, I equally would suggest you keep an eye on it and to seek medical assistance if it continues.

I hope this helps.
Annette
